GOUT

What is Gout?

Gout is a common type of arthritis caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood, which can form crystals in the joints. These crystals often affect the big toe and can cause sudden pain, swelling, redness, and stiffness that may last for days or even weeks.

Study Purpose

Compare the effectiveness of the study medication vs. the standard treatment, in lowering the uric acid levels and patients with gout and tophi  (hard lumps that form under the skin when uric acid crystals build up) and on patients with flare ups.

Requirements

· 18 – 75 years of age

· BMI < 45 kg/m2

· Must be diagnosed with Gout and on treatment.

Major Disqualifications

- Being pregnant or lactating

- Heart disease 

- Cancer in the last 5 years

Study Appointment Schedule

 

Appointments are every two weeks during the first 2 months, then monthly for

5 months and lastly every 2 months.

Duration

 

Up to 20 months.
