Knee Osteoarthritis
Is a common condition where the cartilage that cushions your knee wears down over time. Older people and people with obesity are more at risk of developing this condition.
Common symptoms:
-
Knee pain that worsens with activity and improves with rest
-
Morning or after-rest stiffness (usually under 30 minutes)
-
Grinding or crackling sounds with movement
-
Reduced flexibility or movement

According to the AAOS every pound of body weight places four to six pounds of pressure on each knee joint.

Study purpose
There are two different studies:
1) For people with overweight/obesity that is intended to reduce knee pain by reducing the weight
2) For people with knee osteoarthritis that failed conservative treatment, this one will compare removing the lose cartilage from your knee alone vs. with the addition of stem cells, this is intended to regenerate your cartilage.
