Venous Thromboembolism prevention (VTE)

After major orthopedic surgeries like knee replacement, patients have a higher risk of developing blood clots if preventive treatment is not used. VTE is a blood clot that formed in a vein. A piece of clot may break lose and this is called an embolus. Some treatments are more effective at preventing clots, while others may carry a higher risk of bleeding.

Study purpose

This study is developing a medication intended to prevent formation of clots in veins after a total knee arthroplasty.

Requirements

​​

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Currently scheduled for a elective unilateral total knee arthroplasty

Major Disqualifications​

​

  • Currently pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Bleeding disorders

  • Substance abuse

  • Uncontrolled chronic conditions

Schedule:

5 visits (Screening + surgery + 3 follow up visits)

Duration

Around 3 months
